What Are Denture Adjustments?
Denture adjustments are when your dentist makes minor tweaks and adjustments to your denture to provide a more comfortable experience for you. Adjustments are often needed as your mouth changes, as they’re necessary for improving the fit and function of your dentures. When your denture doesn’t fit well it can make things like eating more difficult.
Do Your Dentures Need an Adjustment?
Did you know your mouth changes shape as you age? As your mouth’s bone structure and soft tissue change, the overall fit and comfort of your current dentures can change. Thankfully, dentures today have come a long way through advances in technology and fabrication. But, if soreness and discomfort are keeping you from enjoying your dentures, let our experienced team step in to help find a solution.
What Is the Difference Between an Adjustment and a Reline?
While denture adjustments are minor tweaks for your comfort, denture relines are a different procedure that involve reshaping the layer of denture that rests on your gums. This aims to improve the fit of your denture, as your mouth can change over time which can affect the fit. Relines are a necessary part of your denture experience.
Do Dentures Need to Be Replaced?
If you’ve had your dentures for several years, you may need a replacement at some point soon. While denture adjustments and relines are helpful in improving the fit and comfort of your denture, you may still need a replacement in the future.
The Process for Denture Adjustments: Step-By-Step
If you’ve just had your denture placed, you may notice that several months after as your mouth is healing, that your denture doesn’t fit as well as it did at first. This is because your gums may shrink during the healing period. When this happens, you’ll need a denture adjustment.
Your dentist will examine your mouth to see how your dentures fit. They will then be able to find where your dentures are causing you discomfort, which will be corrected through tweaks and adjustments.
Expert lab technicians will adjust your denture to create a better fit for you. At Affordable Dentures & Implants, almost all of our branches across the country have an on-site dental lab. Here we can perform denture adjustment and repairs, often with same-day service.
Step 1:
Your dentist will examine your mouth and decide if you need an adjustment and where your denture will need to be adjusted
Step 2:
Your dentist might apply a paste to your dentures to identify pressure points.
Step 3:
Minor adjustments may be made based on your specific needs and requirements.
Step 4:
Your dentist will check to see if your denture fits properly.
Signs You Need a Denture Adjustment
If you’ve noticed any of the following signs, you may need a denture adjustment. Please contact your dentist if you’re feeling any discomfort or pain due to your dentures.
Discomfort and sores
One of the most common signs that you may need a denture adjustment or repair is that you’re experiencing discomfort day-to-day. If you find your denture rubbing and irritating your gums, you may need an adjustment to correct this.
Difficulty eating or speaking
Another common sign that our denture isn't fitting as it should is if you experience trouble eating or speaking. You should be able to chew with ease with dentures in place, so if you’re having trouble it could indicate that your dentures need to be adjusted.
Sliding out of place
Well-fitting dentures should sit securely in your mouth. If you notice that your dentures are often slipping out of place, you may need a denture adjustment.

Real Patient Reviews
Me and my husband shopped around many other places that tried charging us thousands of dollars. This place made the dentures on the same day and saved us thousands of dollars. Great establishment!
Affordable Dentures & Implants is an awesome business and everyone we talked to helped me out. I cannot express how comfortable they made me feel because I had a very bad dental experience when I was young, and I felt calm while xrays were done and they worked up a cost sheet for what I needed to have done.
Nicest and most knowledgeable staff of any dentist I have ever visited. I took my wife there during the pandemic of Covid-19 and the staff did an excellent job of making sure everyone was safe. These folks are the best and the pricing was affordable. If you need dental work or dentures, this is the place to go!!
The staff is professional and good spirited. The pricing is terrific and clear. No nonsense or misleading phrases. I highly recommend Affordable Dentures & Implants to all.
